Joanne has been a valued member of staff, and also a volunteer, with the Sanctuary since 2014. Yesterday she was on duty all through the night (10pm-7am) keeping a close eye on our in-foal mares who have come to us already pregnant in the last few months from various stray horse pounds around the UK.
To raise much-needed funding for our animals, Jo is planning to run a 26.2 mile marathon with some of our rescued dogs on her birthday. . .
Jo said..."2020 was a difficult year for us all, myself included, as I had to have major surgery at the end of the year. I see every day the incredible work that goes on at the Sanctuary in all weathers to keep the animals safe and loved and I just wanted to give something back.
I want to honour Random Acts of Kindness Week and do something positive on my birthday (16th Feb) so I have decided to run a marathon with the rescue dogs at my workplace, Hillside Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary houses thousands of unwanted farm animals and horses and has a large dog rescue and relies on donations only, which have been hit hard in the wake of COVID-19.
I have seen the difficulties for both the animals and the staff in this particularly wet winter and for the sanctuary in terms of raising funds. I also wanted to draw attention to the many dogs awaiting their forever home and the hard work of all the staff at the Sanctuary to keep them safe and loved.
Thank you so much for your donation, however small it is greatly appreciated."
The challenge will see Jo run the 3km track around the Sanctuary 14 times with various dogs in turn. Donations will go towards the huge costs of feeding and caring for the thousands of animals living at the Sanctuary, in this especially wet winter and the upkeep of the Dog Rescue.
Please donate below if you would like to sponsor Jo...
